Love 10-year battery and installation, but…
Loved that these have a 10-year battery in them. Also, they fit on my old First Alert mounting brackets so the four I bought were easy to install. But one thing to note: You have to pull the yellow tab to activate the smoke alarm…but what they don’t tell you is that you have to actually connect it to the mounting plate before the final activation. Because I knew I was going to use the old mounting brackets which were up at the top of our 15′ ceilings, I pushed the test button before climbing the ladder and nothing happened. Opened the second box and tried that one…and nothing. I had to call their customer service who told me that the test button and final activation doesn’t work until you put it into the mounting bracket. They don’t have that in the instructions. Once in the brackets, they all tested perfect.

Quiet at last
Perfect replacement for a smoke detector that goes off in the middle of the night without cause.

Important Note: 10-year Limits Must Replace
I brought in this specific brand to replace all outdated/expired detectors (at the end of their 10-year span). So, I only need to remove the old and twist in the new, same base holder. It’s highly Important to replace them due to the internal sensor reaching its operational limit.

Disappointed
We bought two back at the end of April. Both seemed to work fine. But one of the two which was installed in our main hallway gave us problems. The alarm went off after someone was showering in the nearby bathroom. We knew from past experience that some alarms are sensitive to steam. So we took it down and moved it away to another part of the house. My son tried every recommendation. We even left outside (in fresh air) for hours. When we all had to get some sleep, we just wrapped up in a towel and then a blanket. We could still hear it through the night. Facing a busy work week, I just wrapped it up even more and placed it in a storage container in our garage. It was faint enough now to not really bother us, but that alarm became a part of our lives until today. I broke away the tab and enabled the deactivate switch. That did not work, So an hour ago I found the correct wire to disconnect the grey colored battery. That finally stopped the alarm. We are now almost two months beyond our purchase date. can we still return this unit and have it replaced with one will that does not give a false alarm after someone takes a shower. Thanks, Jim

It worked perfect. I installed it in my Condo. Easy installation and product functioned well when tested.

Have at least 1 spare on hand …
How about those really early mornings when out of a clear blue sky or your best dream ever the dreaded CHIRP from one of your smoke detectors ruins the moment . So how about when 2 die at the almost same time , impossible you say , not really .Some of these things come with 10 year batteries , some not . So you get up to find the offending unit which really pisses you off because your house has 7 or more hard wired units . After finally locating the trouble maker you drag out your 6′ ladder & change the batteries then put everything away & slip back in bed . CHIRP , again only this time it ain’t no battery issue the detector has had an end of life event . Do you simply pull out the ladder again & #1 remove the trouble maker with the intention of replacing it later OR #2 use a hammer & gently (NOT) remove it from the ceiling OR #3 have a box of 6 replacement smoke alarms on hand (best option)Me , I have the box of 6 on hand & waiting for that obnoxious early morning wake up CHIRP . As far as having 2 die at almost the same time I’m convinced it was a conspiracy that was planned by Kidde because the odds of hitting the lottery are more favorable than 2 combo smoke/carbon monoxide detectors going into a death CHIRP at almost the exact same time is damn near impossible . I replaced both with regular smoke detectors until the proper replacements arrived .So now we’re down to the last 2 that will be needing replacement . What are the odds they’ll be chirping after midnight . OBTW our 17 YO dogs don’t even hear them anymore when they do chirp .
