Easy Setup, Certified for Safety, and Excellent Peace of Mind
We recently replaced our old 10-year-old combination alarms, and after a lot of research, we chose the X-Sense Smart Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector Combo. We’ve only had them for a short time, but so far I’m very impressed with the installation, functionality, and overall peace of mind they provide. Why I Chose TheseI had a few non-negotiables when choosing new alarms:I needed them to be battery powered since I didn’t want to run wiring through the house.I wanted combination smoke and CO detection, even though my local fire department advised against it. Their concern was mainly due to CO detectors having a shorter lifespan (5–7 years) than smoke detectors (10 years). Using separate detectors could save money over time since you’d only need a few CO units per floor versus one combo unit per bedroom and hallway. That’s a valid point, but for my setup, the combo option made sense.Interconnection across all alarms was essential. We have a basement, main floor, and second floor, so if there’s a fire or carbon monoxide event on the far end of the house, I want every alarm in the home to go off at once. Most importantly, I wanted alarms that were properly certified. After looking into several cheaper brands, I found many were not UL certified, which was a dealbreaker. The X-Sense alarms are both ETL listed and UL certified, and I confirmed this on the official Intertek website, not just the X-Sense product page.InstallationInstallation was very easy. Each unit came with a mounting plate, three screws, and three wall anchors. You’ll need a drill, a 6mm bit, a pencil, a hammer, and a Phillips screwdriver. A ladder and safety goggles also help. I used the included template to mark the ceiling, drilled holes, inserted the anchors, screwed in the plate, and twisted the alarm into place. I installed 10 alarms in about an hour.Setup and AppBefore installing the alarms, I synced each one to the base station using the X-Sense app. The process was quick and intuitive. I added the base station to the app, named each alarm by location, and completed setup in about 10 minutes. The app walked me through each step, and I tested each unit using the app’s built-in test feature. Every alarm sounded properly and was very loud.So Far, So GoodWe’ve had these alarms for just over a week, so there haven’t been any real emergencies, but I feel confident they will do their job. They’re loud, responsive, easy to install, and come from a brand that offers proper third-party certification. If you’re looking for battery-powered, interconnected alarms with both smoke and CO detection, this is a solid, trustworthy choice.

Work fantastic and I love how the app works
This is a great kit and I installed a total of 8 of these for all around coverage of my home. They are easy to pair and install and I really like how the hub can talk to you when your pairing these to let you know everything is setup. The hub can be installed anywhere in your home and it’s super simple to get connected to your network with the mobile application. The mobile application is also leaps and bound better than the cheap Smart Life wifi detectors I had previously got several reasons.First you can test each alarm remotely with the app so no need to stretch to reach the test button or grab a step stool.Second when one is triggered the notification to your phone is instant and it tells you the exact one that was triggered so no guessing. The hub also communicates that information as well.Third the app shows you in real time what the detectors are detecting smoke and CO wise so if you ever smell something you can just open the app and put your mind at ease that something isn’t burning. The one fires all fires works great as well during my testing when one fires the others all fired within two seconds which is perfect. I also like how I can silence the alarms via the app instead of trying to reach for a hush button on the alarm itself. As you can tell the app really sets these apart from the competition. Now and most importantly here is how they perform, to test the sensors I took a burning candle, blew it out then let the smoke hit the detector and it fired within seconds of that which is awesome. Next step wa shaving my wife use a pan and burn some butter, this would normally set of nuesent alarms with my old ones but these could tell the difference and did not fire.Final test was CO which to me is the most important part since you can’t smell or detect it. To test these I took a propane torch and held a metal bucket over the flame to capture the exhaust wearing a pair of gloves. I then put my dedicated first alert CO detector in the buck while it was upside down to make sure their was CO which there was. I then got the buck right under the detector and then flipped it over so the fumes in the bucket would rise to the detector and within a few seconds it fired as CO alarm with the levels it was showing being nearly the same as my first alert one. I also really like how the app told me it was CO vs. smoke. So bottom line this works fantastic, the app is awesome and they are affordable.

Pretty easy set up and install. Appreciate interconnectivity.
Inadvertently tested against false alarm thanks to a middle of the night teenager cooking and forgetting to disengage the old battery operated model. The old one was set off by the oven use but the newly installed heat alarm in kitchen didn’t alert (to be clear there was not a fire nor excessive heat or smoke build up at the time.) The newly installed smoke/Co combination in the adjacent dinning room didn’t alert either.Appreciate that the heat alarm, along with the other smoke/co combination detectors and base, will function as a whole-home system; that along with the app’s ability to monitor functionality, go a long way for peace of mind!Initially setting up app and setting up/connecting individual units to the app took longer than actual installation; however, overall pretty easy setup!
