Battery stops charging after only a few cycles
I have two Wyze Video Doorbell Pro setups, both with the same issues.I am an avid user of Wyze products and have more than a dozen cameras as well as other peoducts. I really like the ability to monitor several cameras all at once from the homescreen in the app. And I like sharing the cameras with other people. Wyze is innovative and their price point has been excellent. Their products are always improving.Wyze battery cameras all are slow to connect when you want to see a live image. The homescreen requires you to go through extra steps to show a video feed from a battery-powered camera that plug in cameras do not have. All the cameras have a slight delay in showing a live view. The battery powered cameras have a significantly longer delay in addition to the extra clicks. This includes the Wireless Video Doorbell Pro as well as the two generations of outdoor battery cameras. That delay doesn’t improve even if you’re using a solar panel to charge the cameras, regardless of whether the sun is out and it’s actively charging.More problematic for these cameras is that they will no longer charge. The battery lasts for many months and I’ve had the cameras perhaps as long as two years, so I’ve only gone through 3 or 4 charging cycles. Neither of my Video Doorbell Pros will charge. Other users have done testing in the battery and have found the batteries are actually fine and surmised that there’s a software issue.I use both of my Video Doorbell Pro cameras with the Wyze deadbolt locks. The deadbolt locks work well. You can provide an 8-digit code that expires after a certain time to someone at the door to allow them access. It’s then up to that person to enter (all 8) digits correctly and ouch the unlock button. Some people are better at this than others. Alternatively if you have a Video Doorbell Pro (and it’s not clear to me if other Wyze video doorbells will also work in the same way), you can unlock the door from the Video Doorbell Pro screen. I’ve found this to work only intermittently, this of course only when the battery is charged. It’s unfortunately not a feature upon which I can rely.I really like Wyze as a company. I think they care about providing a good product and good service. I think their products have served me well. The Video Doorbell Pro is my least favorite product that I’ve owned. I’ve recently ordered a video duo doorbell. I don’t think it connects with the lock in the same way (though it isn’t clear on the Wyze store website). But it has the same removable battery as the second generation battery powered outdoor cameras. I’m have my battery cameras on solar chargers and I’m planning to swap out those fully charged batteries from the solar-charged cameras (which are always at 100% charge) for the video can duo when they’re discharged down to about 20%.My advice:I really like Wyze products, but have significant issue with this particular product. If you’re invested in the Wyze infrastructure like I am, I would consider buying a different video doorbell camera, such as a wired one or perhaps the video doorbell camera duo in which you can remove the battery and charge it independently if the camera. If any Wyze engineers are reading this, first thank you for making useful, innovative products that I enjoy using. Second I would love if the cameras would connect with a live view faster in the app, especially the battery-powered ones. I’ll try the new solar panel camera soon to see if any of this is improved. The Video Doorbell Pro has charging issues which may be a software issue and the integration with the lock isn’t reliable. A solar panel charging option for the video doorbells is something that might be useful.
