Proper Power – Simple Interface, Easy Child-Lock Removal and (if you need) Dimensions.
I am going from an OLD B&D 1000w, 1.1CuFt microwave to this new Sharp unit. I am amazed at how quiet it works and how much more powerful this new unit is in comparison to the old. I also noticed the carousel tray rotates at a faster speed, if that even matters. The functionality of this unit overall is excellent in all ways. This well built, solid microwave is good looking with its sleek lines and simple interface. The push button door opener is new to me also and I like it better than having a grab handle. The child-lock is SUPER easy to disable and Sharp has placed instructions on a label attached to the outside of the door. This child-lock feature is a LAW and obviously, Sharp understands that nobody actually uses it and provides these simple instructions conspicuously on the door. For those that it matters: I have a very specific cabinet shelf that is sized rather tight. I needed a microwave that was no taller than 12″ and needed to sit on a 12″ deep shelf. This unit DOES NOT meet this need. The height is fine at 11.8″ but the feet on the underside need a depth of 13″ to sit properly. I am a woodworker and was able to easily add an extra 1 1/4″ to my shelf, but I didn’t want to do this and was hoping this unit would fit. It does not. The advertised dimensions otherwise are spot on.In closing, this is an excellent microwave that works great and is easy to operate. An Excellent Value For The Money – Highly Recommended

    Very happy
Wow! What a great microwave. Read dozens of reviews before I found this one. Not a single negative thing in the reviews. So far I’m loving it. Perfect size. Holds a good sized dinner plate. Very easy to use. Heats quickly and easily. Very easy to follow instructions. Quiet. A breeze to “install”. Don’t know about durability or longevity as I’ve only had it for a couple of weeks. Very happy so far.

    Attractive and functional
Sharp SMC1161KW Microwave reviewWe repurposed our 20 year old Sharp microwave is 1.2 cu ft. and 1200 Watts, thus needed a new microwave oven, but Sharp no longer makes a microwave with those specs. We didn’t want to go larger in exterior size and the dimensions of this model are almost identical to our more interior spacious and powerful older model. At 1.1 cu ft. and 1000 Watts this was the closest match we could find and so far it seems to perform close in power to our 1200 watt model. While other brands appear more prominently in generic internet searches for microwave ovens, we sought the Sharp brand out because of the performance of our previous Sharp. This model is much quieter than our old model and while our old model had more features, this one has all we need plus most functions are similar enough where the learning curve is minor. While we would have preferred a white interior we will probably like this dark one as well once we’re used to it. The touch sensitivity on the control panel is light and easy – about the same as our old model. As others have reported, the display light is probably twice as bright as it needs to be, but not a deal breaker for us, and the child lock is easily disabled. We do have a few minor gripes:1. I’m 6’ tall and standing 2 feet or less away from this microwave which sits on a standard counter top height. The digital display is recessed far enough far enough behind the black frame cutout that it becomes unreadable. The black frame blocks the top edge of the digits so I cannot distinguish a number 7 from a number 1, for example. I need to either back up beyond arm’s length or bend over to see the entire display correctly.2. We haven’t tried all the settings yet, but POPCORN immediately threw us a curve ball. Whereby our old model simply had one auto setting for POPCORN, this one has three fixed settings based on ounces per bag; 1.75, 3.0, and 3.5. So of course the first bag of popcorn we tried was 2.4 oz. (there’s no setting for that), so we used the 3.0 oz. setting and the bag popped more thoroughly (fewer old maids) than our old model without burning, so we’ll see what happens.3. The carousel on our old model conveniently made one rotation every 10 seconds making the warming of a cup of coffee simple, as the cup handle returned exactly to the position it started in making removal so easy. I haven’t figured out the rotation timing of this model yet, but it’s different enough so that the 10 second rotation no longer applies, and the reheated coffee cup usually ends up at the rear of the carousel with the handle facing away.We have only had this microwave a few weeks, so we’ll attempt to publish further likes/dislikes as they appear. If this model lasts as long as our old one, which continues running, we’ll be happy campers.Recommended

Great microwave, easy to disable child door lock
Excellent microwave. Cooks evenly, looks great. Here’s something I love, the popcorn button works perfectly with Orville Redenbacher which is a feature advertised on more expensive models only but seems to have leaked down to this model too (despite no advertising for it). I tested it… Perfect. The annoying child safety door lock is super easy to disable and *remains disabled* even if the microwave loses power. I’ve yanked the power and tested this. It’s just like Sharp said. (Press 7 then 9, then hold 0 until it beeps).PS this is a new regulation for any microwave sold in the US after March 2024.Personally I think it’s a bit nanny state to force manufacturers to ship microwaves with it enabled by default rather than optional afterwards… But it is what it is.Sharp make it super easy to disable and they even put a very large sticker on the microwave showing you how to do it. I think the company realise how annoying this “feature” is for people without kids, so they did their best to help us out.I dropped a star because closing the door seems a bit louder than usual, I feel like they could have dampened the closing a bit.. To me it’s no big deal though.

    Good microwave
Nice microwave, love that it looks much more modern and sleeker than so many of them available. Seems to work well, there was a minor adjustment period where I kept forgetting to unlock it after cooking by pressing the 0 button and would think it was broken for a minute, but no, classic user error, otherwise it’s easy to use and fits perfectly under my cabinet with room above it.

    Good size and Quality
I like to wait a bit before I review. My old microwave went and I bought this one. I really like it. It’s a good size, easy to clean and a lot of nice functions on it. I’m not sure if my old microwave ever had these or I never tried to learn them but I like the functions plus I never realized how loud my old microwave was as this is pretty quiet. I’m really happy with my purchase.
