The FIRST ALERT CO615 dual power carbon monoxide plug in alarm alerts you to dangerous carbon monoxide. This carbon monoxide detector operates on a dual power system with battery backup for continuous monitoring, even in the event of a power outage. The backlit digital screen tells you at a glance what the carbon monoxide and power Levels Are. The Co monitor also features a convenient test and silence button and an end of life timer that lets you know when it is time to replace the unit.*ensure the outlet has power.*the battery is for back up only and is not intended to power the alarm for an Extended period of time in the absence of AC. *the alarm will light up the display briefly to indicate the unit is receiving power. *press and hold test button to ensure activation. Carbon monoxide (CO) is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in America, yet many people don’t know they are suffering from CO poisoning until its too late. Since symptoms of CO poisoning are like the flu, you might not even know you’re in danger at first. That’s why a carbon monoxide alarm is an excellent way to protect your family. It can detect the CO you can’t see, smell or taste in the air. The FIRST ALERT CO615 carbon monoxide alarm uses an electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor-the most accurate technology available. Installation is as simple as plugging it in to any wall outlet. Its easy-to-read backlit digital LED display gives you a clear read-out of current CO concentrations in parts per million. The alarm includes a battery back-up giving you peace of mind in a power outage. The test/silence button both silences a non-threatening alarm or low battery warning and allows you to test the unit’s functionality. The unit monitors and re-alarms if carbon monoxide levels persist sounding a loud 85-decibel horn. An audible and visual low battery signal alerts you to replace the battery and an indicator alerts you when a battery has been removed. An end-of-life alarm of three chirps alerts you to replace the unit. Two AA batteries are included. 7-year limited warranty. UL listed. –Bree Norlander

    It’s Easy and it Works!
Recently our neighbors had an incident where a CO detector went off in the middle of the night and perhaps saved their lives. It reminded me that our old detector (Kidde Nighthawk) had eventually got to the end of its life and we had to throw it out and we had not replaced it. So we looked for a replacement that we could put up easily in a good location. How do you judge a CO detector? I searched online and checked out reviews of those that actually test these things with Carbon Monoxide and found that the First Alert was frequently rated better than the other brands. I wanted one that had both AC power and a battery backup and this one fit the bill. Here’s what I like: After opening it up and popping in the included batteries, it was ready to go! The attached plug and cord are designed so that you can install it directly into an outlet or hang it somewhere else and run the cord to the outlet. But since Carbon Monoxide sinks, plugging it in at wall outlet height just makes sense (It can also be rotated 90 degrees in the outlet to make more room). You really don’t even need to look at the instruction manual because it is so easy!People make a big deal about the lighting, etc. on the digital display, but here is the thing to know: The displays on these CO detectors generally do not display anything until the level reaches 30 ppm (even the ones with the always-on red digital display). Anything under 30 ppm and it simply says 0. So the only reason you need the display is if the alarm actually goes off. At that point the LCD flashes red and the number is displayed so that you can report it. I also like that this unit will keep the number in memory for 24 hours (after all, who of us will remember the number if the alarm is going off at 2:00 AM and you are calling 911?). The rest of the time, all you have to do is look at it and there is a small green led indicating that things are ok. Peace of mind!

    Great & Reliable CO Detector
This is a replacement and well worth it. Says it lasts 7 years, but mine lasted longer. Anyone looking for a CO detector can’t go wrong with this. This is on the second floor — have a 10 year one on the first floor. Forgot to say that at the end of the 7 years, it beeps and shows “end”.

    No false alarms so far
This one went in the bedroom. Nice design with wall wart that is captive in the back of the unit so it can be “mounted” by simply plugging into a wall receptacle if one is available. In our case, the only available receptacle is split with one half of the receptacle being turned on and off with the switch for the overhead lights. Due to the clever design of this unit, the solution to that problem is simple – just pry back the little tabs that hold the wall wart captive, pop it out, and plug it into the power strip that occupies the unswitched half of the wall receptacle and powers the clock radio and bedside lamp. Rather than putting anchors in the wallboard to mount the CO detector, I just set it on the floor and stood it upright leaning against the wall.Side note – when I first plugged it in , I noticed it chirping occasionally. That chirping reminded me that I had not yet installed the two AA backup batteries. I took care of that and no more chirp. Tested the detector with the test button. it’s LOUD! I’m pretty sure this will wake me if there’s ever a high CO problem. It might even wake the neighbors too!

    Decent product
Decent product. Consumer reports says this model detects carbon monoxide with an excellent rating. It plugs in and does not need any further stabilization beyond that. It comes with 2 AA batteries that are easily installed. There is a difficult to see green light that shows you the product is working. I had to unplug it a couple of times to convince myself it was on. If you press the button on the right you are shown a blue screen with the current carbon monoxide level which should read 0. The button on the left is a silence/ test button. I thought it always displayed CO level. It does not or I would have given it 5 stars.

Depsite the old school interface, this potentially saved my life
I was overseeing contractors doing stuff in my house and outside the house they had a gas engine. There were air purifiers inside my house causing negative air pressure and sucking in the CO while I almost fell asleep. This loud alarm caused me to evacuate my house. Works great.

    Finally died after 7 years
Honestly I should have replaced this as a precaution 2 years ago but it was sure to let me know when it stopped working with 3 beeps and an error message. Time to retire it for a new one! I only had to change the batteries maybe 4 times over the past 7 years. It stayed plugged in and hung on the wall about waist high. Changing batteries and testing it periodically was super easy. It was VERY loud, I could hear it from anywhere on my main floor. Did have one instance where we panicked bc it went off only to realize one of the kids leaned something against the device and it compressed the test button (which has to be pressed and held for more than 3 seconds so this was like a freak incident where it was perfectly leaning against it lol). All in all, great quality. Pretty sure if it failed I’d be dead, so there’s that. Gonna buy a replacement now 7 years later and finally write the review for this first purchase back in 2018 lol

I own a condo townhouse and on the 24th of December 2022 the fire man came to my door after they were called to my area by another home owner whose carbon monoxide was going off. The outlet to my outside gas furnace pipe was blocked with snow. They cleared the snow away checked my monoxide fixtures and told me I need all new ones. I bought the package of 3 as the picture shows and plugged them in. They have a small light that shows they are on and working. I strongly suggest that anyone who does not have carbon monoxide alarms buy a package of these immediately. You can test them just by pressing a small button. Again, I repeat again if you do not have carbon monoxide alarms in your dwelling get these. They work great.

Tough to review a product you hope you will never need. I bought this because of good test reports elsewhere, the battery backup and the fact it has a visual display to check status and peak CO level over a period of time so you can monitor if there is a growing problem such as a furnace getting leaky. A lot of CO detectors have just an audible alert when levels get too high. This is inadequate although better than nothing. This unit costs a little more but I think is worth it. No one should be without a CO detector. It can save your life. Note that the organic detector elements have a limited life-span from 5 – 7 years. It’s essential the unit should have an audible warning when time to replace it.
